Ralph MacDonald was an American percussionist, songwriter, and producer whose work enhanced countless recordings across jazz, R&B, and pop. As a session musician, his percussion appeared on recordings by artists including Roberta Flack, Grover Washington Jr., and Bob James. His songwriting credits included 'Where Is the Love' (co-written with William Salter). MacDonald's influence on contemporary jazz and R&B percussion established approaches that subsequent players followed. He represented session musicianship at its most accomplished and influential.
