Pharoah Sanders is an American jazz saxophonist who became one of the most influential figures in spiritual and free jazz. His work with John Coltrane, particularly on 'Meditations,' established his reputation for intense, spiritually-seeking improvisation. Albums like 'Karma' (featuring 'The Creator Has a Master Plan') achieved crossover success while maintaining artistic integrity. Sanders' sound—combining powerful technique with spiritual exploration—influenced generations of saxophonists. His late-career collaboration with Floating Points introduced his music to new audiences. Sanders represented jazz's most transcendent possibilities.
