Genre: Death Metal
Obituary are an American death metal band from Tampa, Florida, formed in 1984 who became one of the genre's most influential acts. Their albums 'Slowly We Rot' and 'Cause of Death' helped define death metal's sound and established Tampa as a crucial center for the genre. Vocalist John Tardy's distinctive growling delivery and the band's crushing guitar tone became templates for countless subsequent death metal bands. Obituary's continued activity across decades demonstrated death metal's enduring appeal. Their influence on extreme metal was foundational, and they remain respected elder statesmen of the genre.
