NRBQ (New Rhythm and Blues Quartet) are an American rock band formed in 1967, known for their eclectic blend of rock and roll, pop, jazz, and rockabilly. Their unpredictable live shows and refusal to fit into any single genre earned them a devoted cult following despite limited commercial success. The band's musicianship and spontaneous approach influenced numerous alternative and roots rock artists. NRBQ's longevity—over five decades with various lineups—demonstrated their commitment to music for its own sake rather than commercial ambition. Their influence on subsequent artists who valued musical eclecticism and live performance was substantial.
