Artist: Laura Branigan
Genre: Pop/Dance
Laura Branigan was an American singer who achieved international success in the 1980s with powerful dance-pop recordings. Her biggest hits, including 'Gloria,' 'Self Control,' and 'Solitaire,' showcased her powerful voice and European-influenced production. 'Gloria,' adapted from an Italian original, became one of 1982's biggest hits and remains her signature song. Branigan's dramatic vocal style suited the era's taste for epic pop productions. Though her commercial success was concentrated in the 1980s, her songs achieved lasting popularity through continued use in films and compilations. Branigan's sudden death in 2004 ended a career that had seen her return to performing. Her influence on dance-pop vocalists who valued power and drama was notable.
