Artist: Kristin Hersh
Genre: Alternative Rock
Kristin Hersh is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist best known as the founder of Throwing Muses, one of the first American alternative bands signed to 4AD. Her intense, unconventional songwriting combined personal confession with angular musical structures. Throwing Muses' self-titled debut was the first American release on 4AD, helping establish American alternative rock in the UK. Hersh's solo career explored quieter, more acoustic territories while maintaining her distinctive lyrical voice. Her memoir 'Rat Girl' documented her early career and struggles with mental health. Hersh has pioneered alternative music distribution models, offering music directly to fans. Her influence on female alternative rock artists and her commitment to artistic integrity make her an important figure in independent music.
