Johnny Winter was an American blues guitarist and singer whose ferocious playing and distinctive albino appearance made him one of the most recognized blues-rock artists of his era. His virtuosic guitar work combined traditional blues with rock energy, creating an exciting, high-powered style. Winter achieved mainstream success in the late 1960s and 1970s while remaining dedicated to authentic blues, later producing landmark albums for his hero Muddy Waters. His slide guitar playing and intense performances influenced countless rock guitarists. Winter continued performing despite health challenges until shortly before his death in 2014. His commitment to blues authenticity while achieving rock stardom made him an important bridge between the two genres.
