Artist: Jan Hammer
Genre: Jazz Fusion/Electronic
Jan Hammer is a Czech-American musician and composer whose career has spanned jazz fusion and electronic music. As keyboardist with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, he helped define jazz fusion's virtuosic possibilities. His solo work demonstrated mastery of synthesizers and electronic production. Hammer achieved mainstream success composing the theme and incidental music for 'Miami Vice,' winning a Grammy for the iconic main title. His ability to create memorable synthesizer melodies while maintaining technical sophistication influenced numerous subsequent artists. Hammer's work demonstrated that synthesizers could create emotionally compelling music, not just cold electronic sounds. His influence on both jazz fusion and electronic pop production was substantial.
