Artist: Icicle Works
Genre: Alternative Rock
The Icicle Works were a British rock band from Liverpool, led by vocalist and guitarist Ian McNabb. Emerging in the early 1980s, they achieved their greatest success with the single 'Love Is a Wonderful Colour' and the atmospheric 'Birds Fly (Whisper to a Scream),' which became a college radio hit in the United States. Their sound combined post-punk atmospherics with melodic songwriting and psychedelic influences befitting their Liverpool heritage. Albums like 'The Icicle Works' and 'The Small Price of a Bicycle' showcased McNabb's ambitious songwriting. Though commercial success proved inconsistent, the band earned critical respect and a loyal following. After the Icicle Works disbanded, McNabb pursued a acclaimed solo career. The band's blend of ambition and melody influenced subsequent British alternative rock.
