Artist: Hank Locklin
Genre: Country
Hank Locklin was an American country music singer known for his smooth tenor voice and romantic ballads. His biggest hit, 'Please Help Me, I'm Falling,' topped the country charts for 14 weeks in 1960 and crossed over to the pop charts. Locklin's style emphasized melodic singing over the rougher honky-tonk sound of many contemporaries. He was particularly popular internationally, especially in Ireland, where his music found an appreciative audience. Locklin was a member of the Grand Ole Opry for over 50 years, demonstrating his enduring appeal within country music. His warm vocal approach influenced subsequent country balladeers and helped establish the smoother, more pop-influenced style that would characterize much country music in later decades.
