Green on Red was an American alternative rock band formed in Tucson, Arizona in 1979, later relocating to Los Angeles. They were key figures in the Paisley Underground movement and pioneers of alternative country rock. Led by vocalist Dan Stuart and guitarist Chuck Prophet, the band's sound combined punk energy with country, blues, and psychedelic influences. Albums like 'Gas Food Lodging,' 'No Free Lunch,' and 'Killer Inside Me' showcased their evolution from garage rock toward a more rootsy sound that anticipated the alt-country movement. Their uncompromising approach and refusal to follow commercial trends earned them critical respect but limited commercial success. Chuck Prophet went on to a successful solo career. Green on Red's influence on the development of alternative country and Americana music is widely acknowledged.
