Everything but the Girl were an English musical duo formed in Hull in 1982, consisting of Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt. The duo created sophisticated pop combining jazz, folk, and electronic influences. Their early work featured acoustic instrumentation and Thorn's distinctive, understated vocals. Albums like 'Eden' showcased their intelligent songwriting and jazz-influenced sound. In 1995, a remix of their song 'Missing' by Todd Terry became a massive international hit, transforming them into dance music stars. EBTG successfully evolved from indie-folk to electronic music while maintaining artistic credibility. They've influenced numerous artists with their sophisticated, melancholic pop. After a long hiatus, they reunited in 2022. Everything but the Girl represent British pop at its most intelligent and adaptable, demonstrating that artists can evolve dramatically while maintaining their core identity and artistic integrity.
