Dusty Springfield was an English pop singer born Mary O'Brien in 1939, who became one of the finest white soul singers and most successful British female artists. Springfield achieved success in the 1960s with hits including 'I Only Want to Be with You,' 'You Don't Have to Say You Love Me,' and 'Son of a Preacher Man.' Her powerful, emotional voice and ability to interpret soul and pop material made her exceptional. Springfield's blue-eyed soul style influenced countless singers. She helped popularize Motown and American soul music in Britain. After a quieter period, she returned to success in the late 1980s with the Pet Shop Boys collaboration 'What Have I Done to Deserve This?' Springfield was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and passed away in 1999, remembered as one of the greatest vocalists in popular music.
