Artist: Credit To The Nation
Genre: Hip-Hop
Credit to the Nation were a British hip-hop group formed in 1991, known for their politically conscious rap and use of samples from punk and alternative rock. The group was led by MC Fusion (Matthew Hanson) and became prominent in the early 1990s UK hip-hop scene. Their biggest hit was 'Call It What You Want' in 1993, which sampled Led Zeppelin's 'Whole Lotta Love' and addressed racism and social issues. Credit to the Nation's music combined rap with rock samples, creating a crossover sound that appealed to both hip-hop and rock audiences. Their politically engaged lyrics addressed racism, inequality, and social justice. While they achieved some chart success and critical acclaim, they never became mainstream stars. Credit to the Nation represented British hip-hop's politically conscious wing, demonstrating that UK rap could address serious issues while remaining accessible and engaging. The group disbanded in the late 1990s but influenced British hip-hop's development.
