Art Farmer was an American jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn player, known for his beautiful tone, lyrical playing, and sophisticated approach to improvisation. Born in 1928, Farmer was active from the late 1940s until his death in 1999. He was known for his warm, singing tone on both trumpet and flugelhorn. Farmer co-led the Jazztet with saxophonist Benny Golson. His playing emphasized melody, subtlety, and emotional expression rather than technical pyrotechnics, making him stand out among brass players.
