Area Code 615 were an American country rock band formed in Nashville in 1969, known for pioneering the fusion of country music with rock and jazz influences. The group consisted of session musicians who worked regularly at Nashville's recording studios, including Mac Gayden, Wayne Moss, and others. Their instrumental sound combined country twang with rock grooves and experimental elements, creating a unique Nashville sound that predated much of the later Americana and alt-country movements. Their albums 'Area Code 615' and 'Trip in the Country' showcased their innovative approach to blending genres. While they were not commercially successful during their brief existence (1969-1971), Area Code 615 influenced the development of country rock and demonstrated that Nashville session musicians could create adventurous, progressive music beyond traditional country. Many members went on to successful careers in music production and session work.
