Artist: Arabesque
Genre: Euro Disco
Arabesque were a German Eurodisco group formed in 1977, achieving particular success in Japan and Asia during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The group consisted of female vocalists Sandra Lauer (who later achieved solo success as Sandra), Michaela Rose, and Jasmin Vetter. Arabesque created catchy disco-pop with lush production, romantic lyrics, and the vocal harmonies typical of European disco. They released numerous albums and became especially popular in Japan, where they achieved superstar status and toured extensively. Songs like 'Hello Mr. Monkey' and 'Friday Night' showcased their polished Euro disco sound. While they never achieved major success in English-speaking countries, Arabesque were significant in the international disco scene and helped establish the template for European dance-pop groups. The group disbanded in the mid-1980s, with Sandra going on to a successful solo career in synth-pop.
