Artist: Angelic Upstarts
Genre: Punk
Angelic Upstarts were an English punk rock band formed in South Shields in 1977, known for their working-class politics, anti-fascism, and Oi! punk sound. Fronted by Mensi, the band combined punk aggression with soccer terrace chanting and working-class anthems. Their music addressed unemployment, fascism, police brutality, and working-class struggle with directness and passion. Angelic Upstarts achieved UK chart success unusual for punk bands, with singles like 'I'm an Upstart' and 'Teenage Warning' reaching the charts.
