André Previn was a German-American pianist, conductor, and composer who excelled across classical, jazz, and film music. Born in Berlin in 1929, Previn fled Nazi Germany as a child. He first achieved success as a jazz pianist and Hollywood arranger, winning four Academy Awards for film music. Previn then transitioned to conducting, leading major orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra. He was equally at home improvising jazz or conducting Rachmaninoff. He passed away in 2019.
