In their debut album, "Is This Me Forever," MEAN GIRLS seem to have forgotten the golden rule of Spinal Tap: "It's such a fine line between stupid and clever." Unfortunately, this album falls squarely on the side of the former.

The opening track, "High School Drama," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its cringe-inducing lyrics and lacklustre production.

It's as if the band took every cliché from '00s teen movies and tried to turn it into a song.

Spoiler alert: it didn't work.

Throughout the album, MEAN GIRLS attempt to blend pop-punk with emo, but instead of creating a unique sound, they end up sounding like a watered-down version of Avril Lavigne.

And not even early Avril, but like, 2011 Avril.

The lead singer's vocals are passable at best, but it's clear they're trying to compensate for lack of range with excessive autotune.

It's a shame, because underneath all the overproduction and forgettable hooks, there might be some potential.

Overall, "Is This Me Forever" is a forgettable debut from a band trying too hard to be edgy and relevant.

Maybe they'll find their stride on their next album, but for now, MEAN GIRLS definitely don't make the cut.

Time to go back to the drawing board, lads.
