Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) were a Japanese electronic music band formed in 1978 by Haruomi Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi, and Ryuichi Sakamoto. Their pioneering synthesizer-based music influenced the development of synth-pop, electro, and techno worldwide. Albums 'Solid State Survivor' and 'BGM' combined electronic experimentation with pop accessibility. Their use of sampling, sequencing, and computer technology was revolutionary. YMO's influence on electronic music was immense. They represented Asian popular music's most significant international impact.
