Wipers were an American punk rock band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 1977 by guitarist Greg Sage whose powerful, melodic punk influenced countless subsequent alternative bands. Albums 'Is This Real?,' 'Youth of America,' and 'Over the Edge' earned them cult status and influenced bands from Nirvana to Mudhoney. Though commercial success proved elusive, Wipers' influence on grunge and alternative rock was substantial. They represented punk rock's most musically ambitious and influential possibilities.
