Artist: Winifred Atwell
Genre: Pop/Boogie-Woogie
Winifred Atwell was a Trinidad-born British pianist who became the first Black artist to have a UK number one hit with 'Let's Have Another Party' in 1954. Her boogie-woogie and honky-tonk piano style, often performed on her 'other piano' (a battered upright), made her a television favorite. Atwell's remarkable success as a Black woman in 1950s Britain broke significant barriers. Her influence on British popular music and her role as a pioneering figure was substantial.
