Artist: Village People
Genre: Disco
Village People were an American disco group created by producers Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo, known for their campy, costumed personas representing American masculine stereotypes. Their hits 'Y.M.C.A.,' 'Macho Man,' and 'In the Navy' became enduring disco anthems and cultural phenomena. The group's theatrical presentation and catchy songs made them disco's most recognizable act. 'Y.M.C.A.' remains ubiquitous at sporting events worldwide. Village People represented disco at its most flamboyant and its most commercially successful.
