Vangelis (Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou) was a Greek composer and musician whose synthesizer-based music achieved both artistic acclaim and massive commercial success. His Oscar-winning score for 'Chariots of Fire' became one of the most recognizable themes in film history. Other acclaimed soundtracks including 'Blade Runner,' '1492: Conquest of Paradise,' and 'Antarctica' demonstrated his ability to create evocative, emotional electronic music. Earlier work with Aphrodite's Child and collaborations with Jon Anderson (Jon and Vangelis) showed his range. Vangelis' influence on electronic and film music was immense.
