Van McCoy was an American musician, songwriter, record producer, and orchestra leader best known for 'The Hustle,' which topped charts in 1975 and won a Grammy Award. The song's distinctive orchestral disco sound sparked a dance craze. McCoy's extensive work as a songwriter and producer contributed to numerous other artists' success. His sophisticated approach to dance music combined orchestral arrangement with contemporary rhythms. Van McCoy represented disco production at its most musically accomplished.
