U96 are a German techno and Eurodance project formed in 1991 who achieved international success with tracks including 'Das Boot,' which sampled the theme from the German film of the same name. Their combination of techno beats with cinematic elements created a distinctive sound. U96 represented German electronic music's commercial potential during the early 1990s techno explosion. Their influence extended through the Eurodance genre that dominated European charts during the period.
