Trini Lopez was an American singer and guitarist of Mexican descent who achieved international success in the 1960s with his energetic Latin-flavored pop. His hit version of 'If I Had a Hammer' combined folk material with infectious rhythms that appealed to mainstream audiences. Lopez's charismatic performances made him a popular nightclub and television performer. His influence on Latin pop crossover and his demonstration that Hispanic artists could achieve mainstream success was notable. Lopez represented the more accessible end of 1960s folk-pop.
