The Triffids were an Australian rock band from Perth formed in 1978 whose literate, atmospheric songs earned them critical acclaim and cult status. Albums like 'Born Sandy Devotional' and 'Calenture' showcased David McComb's poetic songwriting and the band's evocative sound. Though commercial success proved elusive, The Triffids influenced subsequent Australian and international alternative rock. McComb's death in 1999 was mourned as the loss of one of Australia's finest songwriters. The Triffids represented Australian rock at its most artistically ambitious.
