Tears for Fears are a British pop rock band from Bath formed in 1981 by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. Their albums 'The Hurting' and 'Songs from the Big Chair' produced massive hits including 'Mad World,' 'Shout,' 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World,' and 'Head Over Heels.' Their music combined sophisticated production with emotionally intense lyrics influenced by primal therapy. 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' became one of the 1980s' defining songs. Tears for Fears' influence on synth-pop and their demonstration that electronic-based music could accommodate emotional depth was substantial. They represented 1980s pop at its most ambitious.
