Artist: Stranglers
Genre: Punk/New Wave
The Stranglers were a British rock band formed in 1974 who emerged alongside punk but maintained a distinctive identity through their keyboard-heavy sound and musical sophistication. Hits including 'Peaches,' 'No More Heroes,' 'Golden Brown,' 'Always the Sun,' and 'Strange Little Girl' demonstrated remarkable range from aggressive punk to baroque pop. Hugh Cornwell's sardonic vocals and Dave Greenfield's distinctive keyboards created an immediately recognizable sound. The Stranglers' longevity and continued quality across lineup changes demonstrated their artistic resilience. They represented punk's more musically ambitious possibilities.
