Their songs addressed sectarian violence, teenage frustration, and political injustice with visceral power. Hits including 'Suspect Device,' 'Alternative Ulster,' and 'Gotta Gettaway' combined punk energy with intelligence. SLF's influence on punk rock and their demonstration that the genre could engage meaningfully with political crisis was substantial. They represented punk's most politically engaged and geographically specific voice.
