Squeeze are a British band from Deptford, London, formed in 1974, featuring the songwriting partnership of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, often compared to Lennon and McCartney. Their intelligent, witty lyrics and melodic new wave produced classics including 'Cool for Cats,' 'Up the Junction,' 'Tempted,' 'Labelled with Love,' and 'Black Coffee in Bed.' Jools Holland's keyboards contributed to their early sound before his television career. Squeeze's influence on British pop and their demonstration that new wave could accommodate sophisticated songwriting earned them critical respect alongside commercial success.
