Spirit were an American rock band from Los Angeles formed in 1967 who became one of the most innovative groups of the psychedelic era. Their unique blend of rock, jazz, and classical influences, combined with Randy California's distinctive guitar work, created albums including 'Spirit' and 'Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus.' Their instrumental 'Taurus' predates and allegedly influenced Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven.' Despite limited commercial success, Spirit's influence on subsequent progressive and psychedelic rock was substantial. They represented the most adventurous possibilities of late 1960s rock experimentation.
