Artist: Spencer Davis Group
Genre: Rock/R&B
The Spencer Davis Group were a British rock band from Birmingham whose powerful R&B-influenced sound produced some of the 1960s' most exciting recordings. Featuring the extraordinary vocals and multi-instrumental talents of teenage Steve Winwood, they scored hits including 'Keep On Running,' 'Gimme Some Lovin',' and 'I'm a Man.' Winwood's mature voice and Hammond organ playing belied his youth. After Winwood left to form Traffic, the group's commercial momentum faded. The Spencer Davis Group's influence on British R&B and rock demonstrated the power of authentic blues feeling in popular music.
