The Specials were a British ska revival band from Coventry who founded the 2 Tone movement, combining Jamaican ska with punk energy and anti-racist politics. Hits including 'Gangsters,' 'A Message to You Rudy,' 'Too Much Too Young,' and 'Ghost Town' achieved massive success while addressing social issues. Their multiracial lineup embodied their political message. 'Ghost Town,' released during the 1981 riots, became a haunting social document. The Specials' influence on ska revival and British alternative music was foundational. They represented pop music's potential for social commentary.
