Spandau Ballet were a British band from London who became leading figures in the New Romantic movement of the early 1980s. Their evolution from electronic art-pop to polished soul-influenced pop produced hits including 'To Cut a Long Story Short,' 'Chant No. 1,' 'True,' 'Gold,' and 'Through the Barricades.' 'True' became one of the decade's defining ballads, showcasing Tony Hadley's powerful vocals. The band's fashion-forward image helped define early 1980s style. Though legal disputes caused a lengthy split, they reunited for successful tours. Spandau Ballet represented New Romantic's transformation from underground club culture to mainstream success.
