Spacemen 3 were a British space rock band from Rugby formed in 1982 whose minimalist, drone-influenced sound became hugely influential on subsequent alternative and experimental rock. Their motto 'Taking drugs to make music to take drugs to' captured their aesthetic. After the band's dissolution, members formed Spiritualized and Spectrum. Albums like 'The Perfect Prescription' and 'Playing with Fire' are considered classics. Spacemen 3's influence on shoegaze, drone, and alternative rock far exceeded their commercial success. They represented rock's most hypnotic possibilities.
