Artist: Soft Machine
Genre: Progressive Rock/Jazz Fusion

Soft Machine were a British band from Canterbury who became pioneers of the progressive rock and jazz fusion movements. Their evolution from psychedelic pop through progressive rock to avant-garde jazz documented one of rock's most remarkable artistic journeys. Albums including 'Third' and 'Fourth' showcased their complex, jazz-influenced compositions. Robert Wyatt's drumming and vocals, Mike Ratledge's keyboards, and Hugh Hopper's bass created the classic lineup's distinctive sound. Soft Machine's influence on the 'Canterbury Scene' and progressive music generally was foundational. They represented rock's most intellectually ambitious possibilities.
