Smokie are a British rock band from Bradford who achieved international success in the 1970s with their melodic rock sound. Produced by Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn, hits including 'Living Next Door to Alice,' 'If You Think You Know How to Love Me,' 'Lay Back in the Arms of Someone,' and 'Oh Carol' achieved particular success in Europe. Chris Norman's distinctive voice became the band's signature. Smokie's continued popularity, particularly in Europe, demonstrated the lasting appeal of well-crafted pop-rock. They represented 1970s British pop at its most professionally polished.
