Sleep are an American doom metal and stoner rock band from San Jose, California, whose monumental riffs and hypnotic heaviness made them one of the most influential bands in heavy music. Their album 'Dopesmoker'—a single hour-long track—became legendary in metal circles. After their initial breakup, members formed High on Fire and Om. Sleep's reunion in the 2010s proved their continued relevance. Their influence on stoner rock, doom metal, and sludge was immense. Sleep represented heavy music at its most monumental and uncompromising.
