Skids were a Scottish rock band from Dunfermline formed in 1977 who became significant figures in the post-punk movement. Hits including 'Into the Valley' and 'Working for the Yankee Dollar' combined punk energy with anthemic rock. Stuart Adamson's guitar work and Richard Jobson's distinctive vocals created a powerful sound. After the Skids disbanded, Adamson formed Big Country, achieving greater commercial success. The Skids' influence on subsequent Scottish rock and their role in post-punk's development was notable. They represented Scottish rock's late 1970s emergence.
