Sigur Rós are an Icelandic post-rock band from Reykjavík known for their ethereal soundscapes and Jónsi's distinctive falsetto vocals and bowed guitar technique. Albums including '( ),' 'Takk...,' and 'Ágætis byrjun' created immersive sonic worlds that achieved both critical acclaim and surprising commercial success. Their music, sung in Icelandic and their invented 'Hopelandic' language, transcended linguistic barriers through emotional power. Sigur Rós's influence on post-rock, ambient, and atmospheric music was substantial. They represented the most transcendent possibilities of contemporary rock.
