Sham 69 were a British punk rock band from Hersham, Surrey, fronted by Jimmy Pursey. Their working-class anthems including 'If the Kids Are United,' 'Hurry Up Harry,' and 'Hersham Boys' captured punk's populist spirit. The band's terrace-chant style and Pursey's passionate delivery made them favorites among punk audiences. Unfortunately, their gigs attracted unwanted far-right attention despite the band's anti-racist stance. Sham 69's influence on Oi! and street punk was substantial. They represented punk's most communal, sing-along possibilities.
