Artist: Scritti Politti
Genre: Synth-Pop/Art Pop
Scritti Politti is a British band formed in Leeds in 1977, evolving from DIY post-punk origins to sophisticated synth-pop under the direction of Green Gartside. Their albums 'Songs to Remember' and 'Cupid & Psyche 85' produced hits including 'The Word Girl,' 'Wood Beez,' and 'Perfect Way.' Gartside's falsetto voice and the band's meticulous production created a distinctive sound that influenced subsequent art-pop. Scritti Politti's evolution from lo-fi beginnings to polished pop demonstrated remarkable artistic development. They represented post-punk's potential for transformation into sophisticated pop.
