Salt-N-Pepa were an American hip-hop group from Queens, New York, consisting of Cheryl 'Salt' James, Sandra 'Pepa' Denton, and DJ Spinderella. They became one of the first all-female rap groups to achieve sustained commercial success. Hits including 'Push It,' 'Let's Talk About Sex,' 'Shoop,' and 'Whatta Man' achieved massive crossover success. Their frank discussions of female sexuality and empowering messages made them important cultural figures.
