Run-DMC were an American hip-hop group from Hollis, Queens, formed in 1981 who became one of the most influential acts in the genre's history. Joseph 'Run' Simmons, Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels, and Jason 'Jam Master Jay' Mizell pioneered the fusion of hip-hop with rock, particularly with their groundbreaking cover of Aerosmith's 'Walk This Way.' Their stripped-down beats, aggressive delivery, and streetwear style influenced hip-hop's aesthetic development. Run-DMC were the first hip-hop act to achieve gold and platinum albums and appear on MTV. Their influence on hip-hop and popular culture was foundational and enduring.
