Robert Wyatt is a British musician who has created some of the most distinctive and influential music in progressive and experimental rock. As the original drummer and vocalist for Soft Machine, he helped pioneer the Canterbury scene. After a fall that left him paralyzed, he reinvented himself as a solo artist, creating deeply personal albums including 'Rock Bottom' and 'Ruth Is Stranger Than Richard.' His cover of 'Shipbuilding' became a UK hit. Wyatt's unique voice and uncompromising artistic vision influenced countless subsequent artists. He represented progressive rock's most individual and emotionally resonant possibilities.
