The Real Thing are a British soul group from Liverpool who became one of the UK's most successful Black British acts of the 1970s. Their hits 'You to Me Are Everything,' 'Feel the Force,' and 'Can't Get by Without You' combined sophisticated soul arrangements with disco energy. The group achieved particular success in the UK, where they topped the charts and became television favorites. The Real Thing represented British soul music achieving commercial success on its own terms rather than simply imitating American styles. Their influence on subsequent British R&B demonstrated the potential for homegrown soul.
