The Railway Children were a British indie rock band from Wigan who achieved success in the late 1980s and early 1990s with their melodic guitar pop. Their biggest hit, 'Every Beat of the Heart,' reached the UK Top 30 and achieved greater success in the US. The band's sound combined jangly guitars with atmospheric production, fitting the era's indie aesthetic. The Railway Children represented the quality of British indie guitar pop during a fertile period for the genre. Though they disbanded in the early 1990s, their music remained beloved by fans of melodic alternative rock.
